OC – Instructor

This course will provide the Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) with the skills necessary to handle encounters that require the use of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) or OC Spray. This  course was designed for the realities of LEO street arrests and conflicts. The application and philosophy for an OC Spray program  must be police and/or security related.

This is an in-depth course covering topics to include but limited to use of force, position of advantage, commands, nomenclature, effects of OC Spray, duty carry/drawing techniques, contact/cover/movement, interactive drill practice, practical exercises and exposure. The course will  also cover the following; instructor methodology, critical  philosophies in OC Spray training; how to teach concepts  and principles not just techniques; inherent problems such  as, physical limitations of students; how to set up in service  training with limitations such as, time, money,  facilities and other common problems.

At the completion of this course each officer will be able to  describe the advantages and disadvantages of aerosol  irritants and understand the affects of aerosol irritants. They will be able to describe the common carriers for  oleoresin capsicum, the effectiveness and how to use the  canister. Additionally, they will understand  decontamination methods and the use of force as it relates  to Aerosol Irritants. Students receiving this course will be  exposed to the effects of OC Spray.
Also included in this portion of the course will be the “how  to” in utilizing the Non-Lethal Training Ammunition (NLTA)/CCMCK and skill building exercises to improve your training.
